Experiment 1

Swinging Through History:
1. Who was the first person to think a pendulum could be used as a timekeeper? : Galileo Galilei
2. Who was the first person to build such a timekeeper? : Christiaan Huygens
3. Where are you likely to see a pendulum working? : Grandfather Clock
4. What variable affects the number of swings in a given amount of time? : The length of the string, wire, rope, ect.
5. What is a controlled experiment? How do such experiments help scientists learn something new? : A controlled variable is when every thing is the same. The experiments help scientist by learning about that machine, plant, ect.

Experiment 2

Sink or Swim:
1. What floats and what sinks? How can you tell? : If the object is less dense the the water, it will float. If it is denser then the water, it will sink.
2. Which objects will float in water and which objects will sink? (Make a chart or list with the following items: rubber, plastic, wax, ice, copper, wood, tar) :

*Rubber : Float
*Plastic : Float
*Wax : Sink
*Ice : Float*
Copper : Sink
*Wood : Float
*Tar : Sink

3. Which objects will float in salt water and which objects will sink? (Make a chart or list with the following items: tar, plastic, wax, ice, copper, wood, rubber) :
4. Why are your predictions different for salt water and fresh water?
5. Why does a heavy log float? :
